Energy clearing is a great way to get rid of the energetic patterns that others have left in a space and that over time will affect your own life. This allows you to truly have a fresh start and be free to place your own imprint on your space.

Introduction

Have you ever made a resolution to make a change in your life and then found that despite your good intentions, you were unable to see it through?

How did it make you feel? Frustrated, disappointed, powerless?

Have you ever considered it may not be all your fault?

With most personal development teachings telling you that whatever shows up in your life is all your responsibility, this may be the best news yet!
While you are in charge of creating your life, there are outside influences that can impede what you want.

Science now affirms unequivocally that you are a “being of energy”. Would it then make sense that anything you experience and do, your feelings, thoughts and actions, send a unique energetic pattern out into the world?

Just like a person, your physical environment also holds distinctive energetic patterns. These are being generated by the earth itself, by people and modern technology. And just like with people, these patterns are unique to each space as well, giving it a particular “feel”. Whatever is happening energetically in a particular environment influences your own personal feelings, thoughts and actions.

As a result, there is continuous interaction and feedback between you and your environment.

A business associate of mine moved into a new office. 4 months later her thriving business just about went bankrupt. When she moved out, the landlord came by and told her that the people who had leased the office before her had gone bankrupt. My friend had unknowingly surrounded herself with the energy of bankruptcy and discovered too late the powerful influence it had on her business.

Consequently, it is helpful to become aware of and take into consideration the effects your environment can have on you and give some thought to how it can be changed, if necessary.

If you want to modify something in your life, for example: stop a habit, create new behaviors or get treatment for some health issues, you have to create new thoughts and actions that support this transformation.

However, while you might be shifting on a personal level, you continue to live and work in the same environment. The physical space is still holding the memory of your old behavior pattern and will continue to feed that information back to you. Your new resolve may weaken the intensity of that information, but the underlying pattern remains. Unless you are aware of this, over time, you will be pulled back into your previous pattern. This explains why, after making a new resolution and getting off to a good start, you often find yourself slowly drifting back into your old behavior.

This means, if you want to create real, lasting change in your personal life, you need to make changes in your environment as well.

And, because of the continuous interaction between you and your physical space, the reverse is true as well:

Releasing patterns in your environment creates an opening for you to make changes in yourself.

Therefore you cannot underestimate the importance of the impact your physical surroundings have on you. There is a lot more going on behind the scenes than you may have been aware of.

The particular energy pattern of your space will influence how you feel, work and live in your home. It affects your levels of stress and thereby your health. It influences your relationships and ability to work and thereby your finances.

So, what can be done to create an energetically balanced and supportive physical work and home environment?

Feng Shui

The Chinese have studied the interaction between people and their environment for more than 4000 years, resulting in the science of Feng Shui. The principles of Feng Shui are based on observations of nature and people and attempt to harmonize the relationship between both.

The term “Feng Shui” (translated as “wind” and “water”) is derived from an ancient Chinese poem, describing the ideal living conditions:

The winds are mild,
The sun is bright,
The water is clear,
The trees are lush.

Within a physical space, Feng Shui looks at the flow of energy, the “chi”. Sometimes the flow can stop altogether or it can be too strong or too weak. Depending on where the imbalance is located, you can be affected in one or several aspects of your life. Adjustments are then made to create a continuous, balanced flow that can translate into your own life.

There are many different schools of Feng Shui. Conscious Connexion works with the principles of Black Sect Tibetan Buddhist Feng Shui. These teachings were brought to the West by Professor Lin Yun. The concepts are based on paying attention to both the person and the environment as well as the practice of setting intentions when addressing issues of energy flow. This allows you to be an active participant in creating the change you are looking for.

Space Clearing

Using the principles and understandings of Space Clearing as described by author Eric Dowsett you can also find out specifically what type of energetic patterns are found in your environment and how these patterns directly impact you.

Every space has a unique energetic “feel” to it that is the result of combining energetic memories and information from various sources.

Some of the energetic information originates from the earth itself. The earth discharges its own energy through positive and negative magnetic fields. Some of these fields may affect you and, like the presence of fault lines, cause stress and tension. Radiation, due to the crossing of underground water streams, may create challenges to staying focused and can be responsible for health issues.

People also leave emotional imprints behind, particularly when they express strong feelings. This means, for example, that the space in front of your kitchen sink may be filled with feelings like frustration, anger, sadness etc and every time you stand there, you may connect with these feelings. People imprints remain in the space, even if you renovate, paint or put new carpet in.

You are also exposed to electromagnetic radiation as a result of modern technology. This may come from outside power lines, cell phones, computers and microwaves. This type of radiation can affect your physical health and may show up initially as lower levels of energy and concentration.

These energetic patterns can have a powerful influence on your life, but only when you are not aware. The good news is that through awareness, non-judgment and intention the energetic patterns can be balanced.

Exercise

You can try this little exercise to increase your awareness of how you may be affected by your specific home or work environment.

Take a few minutes and stand by your front door, facing towards your living space. Close your eyes and pay attention to how your body feels standing there. What are the sensations and thoughts you become aware of?

You may connect to one of the two tendencies that are described below in a simple and exaggerated form to help you understand the difference. In your situation the tendencies may be much more subtle.

A. You feel dragged out and exhausted, unable to focus. All you can think of is how tired you are and that you just want to sit down and rest.

B. Alternatively, you might find that there is just too much going on. You are feeling restless and somewhat agitated.

If you identified more with tendency A, then it is more likely that there is an excess of yin energy in your space.  Yin energy is slow and calm, but can become draining if you have too much of it around.  A space with excess yin will make you tired. You may feel overwhelmed and find it difficult to get anything done and often there is more clutter present.

The second tendency can be the result of too much yang energy. Yang is more active and stimulating. In an environment with too much yang, you may have trouble settling down, you may feel unfocused and restless and it may be challenging to complete tasks.

If you are working outside your home you can repeat this exercise at your workplace and notice if there is a difference in your experience.

Many of the causes of your experiences are not obvious, because they are not always visible. There are many components that give rise to your particular feelings at any time and you need an expert to identify them.
