Your Perfect Match:
How to attract perfect clients to your business
by
Geli Hamilton
Have you ever considered that
you may be able to influence what kind of person you attract to
your business as a client or customer?
Your business is based on a perceived need or
demand for your product or services, but do you have a clear image
of the person you are selling to?
Any business is based on relationships and studies
have shown that repeat business is the best way to increase your
profit margin. So, how can you draw people into your life that love
your products or services and with whom you can have a long lasting,
profitable and enjoyable relationship?
In my own practice, I have found that business
owners will often not pay attention to this particular area when
developing their business plan and strategies. However, as it is
with any area in your life where you do not have a clear vision,
goal or action plan, your experiences and results will reflect that
lack back to you. If you are presently challenged by client or customer
issues, you may want to follow the simple process outlined below
to put you back on track.
Over the last couple of years I have successfully used and modified
a technique that has been described by Stacey Hall and Jan
Brogniez in their book “ Attracting Perfect Customers”.
This book is an excellent starting point for developing your own
personal attraction list.
As a first step, you want to create a written
list of characteristics that describe YOUR perfect client
or customer in great detail. The easiest way to do this is to close
your eyes for a few minutes and imagine this perfect person sitting
across from you. If you have a client whom you consider to be perfect,
you can imagine that particular person. However, he or she can also
be a mixture of different people you know or you can create someone
completely new. Now see yourself having a conversation with this
person and notice what you like about this person and what you consider
to be assets.
These characteristics may include: a sense of
humor, intelligent, open to new experiences, loves your services
or products and purchases them regularly, recommends you to others,
happily pays on time, values your time, flexible, respectful, loyal,
peaceful, heart-centered, focused, motivated, enthusiastic etc.
However, keep in mind to use YOUR own values in this process.
If you cannot find a lot of characteristics to
start with, feel free to add to the list at a later time. It does
not have to be complete and perfect the first time around. Often,
when you a begin a process like this, you will start paying attention
to the people around you in a different way, noticing what you like
about them – whatever you focus on expands. The main idea
is to get started and then you refine the process over time.
So, now that you have a much clearer idea who
your customer or client is, you are ready to move on to the second
step, which is very powerful indeed. Here you are defining who you
are within the context of your business. What do you want to offer
your perfect clients or customers? What can they expect from you?
In this step the emphasis lies on the word “want”. It
is not about what you think you should offer or need to do or about
being practical and reasonable, but what you would like to provide
if you had no limitations at all.
Again, list your observations. Some of the possibilities
may include: holding the vision of your perfect business, being
knowledgeable, specific work hours, how you want to communicate
, being professional, having integrity, having your clients’ best
interest at heart, referring them to others if you see the need,
your expectation of being paid on time etc.
This step may feel quite challenging to you,
but if you feel resistance or fear coming up, see it as a positive
experience. I found that this particular process will provide you
with the opportunity to look at your business from a fresh perspective,
allowing you to create more clarity about who you are now and the
direction you may want to move towards at this time.
As a result, this process allows you to either
re-affirm or to re-connect with the passion you have for your business.
Everything in life is about energy. When you are authentically connected
to what you believe in, this energy can flow freely, facilitating
your own work experience and drawing like- minded people, including
your perfect clients and customers, to you.
The third step involves looking over your list
of what you want to offer your perfect customers. Notice which items
you are not yet providing and write them down on a third list. This
list becomes part of your action plan for your business.
Once you have your 3 steps finished, put all
the information on a single piece of paper that you keep on your
desk. Every morning, before you start work, spend a few minutes
reading over your lists. This helps to set your focus for the day
and clarifies your intentions. You will have a clear picture of
your perfect client or customer, allowing you to slowly let go of
the ones that are not supportive to you and your business.
As a last step you can also use a simple Feng
Shui technique to activate the area on either your desk or in your
office that relates to bringing “helpful people”, i.e.
clients or customers, into your life.
When you sit in front of your desk, use the 5 o’clock position
on your desk top to place either the list or an image representing
your perfect customers or clients there. If you put them in a clear
plastic sleeve or under a clear plastic mat, they can lay flat on
the desk and will not get in the way when you are working.
Alternatively, you can stand in the doorway to
your office and, looking into the room, locate the 5 o’clock
position of the whole room. You can hang an image on the wall or
place a plant (real or silk) or a water fountain in this area. Remember:
anytime you are placing something intentionally, ensure that you
can visualize your desired outcome clearly in your mind. The object
then becomes a reminder of your intention.
Once you have instituted this process and are
working with it on a regular basis, evaluate the outcome after one
month and then in three month intervals. Notice what seems to work,
assess where changes are needed and adjust your actions accordingly.
This is your personal recipe for successfully creating an unimpeded
energetic flow that will support you in bringing perfect customers
and clients into your business.
